Board of Registrars

Mass. General Laws, Chapter 51, Section 15 mandates that every town have a Board of Registrars consisting of four members, one of which is the Town Clerk.  The three remaining members are appointed by the Board of Selectmen from lists submitted by the town committees of the two leading political parties.  The term of office is three years and shall be staggered so that one term expires each year.

 

The Registrars assist the Town Clerk’s office in registering voters and maintaining the voter lists, certifying the signatures on all nomination papers and petitions, certifying absentee voter applications, conducting recounts and assisting in the preparation of the annual street list.
