Whittier Bridge Pedestrian/Bicycle Lane Closure

dot

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing the temporary closure of the pedestrian and bicycle trail on the Whittier Bridge in Amesbury and Newburyport on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30.  The trail will be closed both days due to bridge inspection activities taking place between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Traffic lanes on this bridge which carries I-95 northbound over the Merrimack River will remain open at all times for motor vehicles to use.

This temporary impact is necessary to allow bridge inspection crews to conduct an inspection of the I 95 northbound bridge over the Merrimack River.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.
