Mission Statement

The Town's inspectors ensure that building construction, electrical, plumbing, gas and mechanical work done within the Town conforms with local, state and federal regulations. The following services are provided:

  • Issue Building Permits
  • Conduct Building Inspections
  • Enforce the State of Massachusetts Building Code
  • Enforce the Salisbury Zoning By-law

Building Permits, including electrical, gas, plumbing and mechanical permits, are required for all work intended to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure.

Permits are not required for;

  One-Story Accessory structures, such as sheds, not exceeding      200 sf in size.

  Fences under 7 feet tall

  Retaining walls under 4 ft. in height

  Sidewalks and driveways

  Finish work such as painting, flooring and others.

  Pools under 24" deep

  Playground Equipment

  Ordinary Repairs (see Building Inspector for further clarification)
