Cemetery Spring Clean-Up

Per the Rules and Regulations of the Salisbury Cemetery Commission, certain personal items are not allowed on graves within Longhill Cemetery. This notice is to alert family/friends that all such items are to be removed from the cemetery. Any items not removed by April 30, 2022 will be disposed of by Salisbury Public Works Personnel.

Items not allowed:

  • Plants by flush markers
  • Shrubs
  • The disposal of flowers and other debris is prohibited except in receptacles provided by the DPW
  • All funeral floral arrangements must be removed from the plot
  • The town is not responsible for damage to flowers, flags, containers or holders due to weather, vandalism, and theft of maintenance procedures

Items, which are allowed

  • Plantings may be placed within 14” of the front and back of the main headstone only and may be bark mulched
  • Urns or clay pots may be placed in the 14” planting area to front and back of headstone only
  • Wreaths are Christmas Greens; which must be removed by December 31st of each year, weather permitting
  • Veteran Flags may be installed at the back edge of the flush marker only and must be maintained in proper, presentable condition
  • Religious artifacts may be placed at the base of the headstone only

The Director of Public of the Department of Public Works has the right to have anything removed from a lot that he/she considers to be objectionable or injurious to the use, purpose and uniform esthetics of any cemetery or in violation of any of the rules and regulations governing its operation.
