North End Boulevard Upcoming Work

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that it has hired a consultant to perform an “existing conditions” survey on North End Boulevard, as the first step in eventually moving forward with a plan to re-pave and reconstruct the entire roadway, from the Beach Center to the New Hampshire state line.  The survey will begin in early June and will include the following:

  • Preliminary Survey Work (early June)
  • Wetland Resource Area Delineations (last week of June)
  • Traffic and Pedestrian Counts (early July)
  • Storm Drainage, Utility, and other Supplemental Survey Information (August through mid-October)

Toward the end of the year, Town officials will meet with MassDOT to go over the results of the survey data and to look at various concepts for reconstructing the roadway.  The project will not simply involve re-paving the roadway, but will be more comprehensive, with a scope that will include looking at the condition and locations of sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb cuts.  In the Spring of 2019, a public meeting will be held to get input from Salisbury residents before the State proceeds with any one particular roadway design concept.  The Town will keep area residents informed of the progress of the State’s work in advance of the public meeting next spring.
