Longhill Cemetery Spring Clean-Up

Per the Rules and Regulations of the Salisbury Cemetery Commission, certain personal items are not allowed on graves within Longhill Cemetery. This notice is to alert family/friends that all such items are to be removed from the cemetery. Any items not removed by April 16, 2021 will be disposed of by Salisbury Public Works personnel.

Items not allowed:

  • Plantings by flush markers are prohibited.
  • No shrub shall be planted on individual lots.
  • The disposal of flowers and other debris is prohibited except in receptacles provided by the DPW.
  • All funeral floral arrangements must be removed from the plot.
  • The town is not responsible for damage to flowers, flags, containers or holders due to weather, vandalism, and theft or maintenance procedures.

Items, which are allowed;

  • Plantings may be placed within 12“of the front of the main headstone only and may be bark mulched.
  • Urns or clay pots may be placed in the 12” planting area to front of headstone only.
  • Artificial flowers are not allowed.
  • Wreaths and Christmas greens: which must be removed by December 31st of each year, weather permitting.
  • Veteran Flags may be installed at the back edge of the flush marker only and must be maintained in proper, presentable condition.
  • Religious artifacts may be placed at the base of the headstone only

The Director of the Department of Public Works has the right to have anything removed from a lot that he/she considers to be objectionable or injurious to the use, purpose and uniform esthetics of any cemetery or in violation of any of the rules and regulations governing its operation.
