LED Retrofit Project Close-Out

LED Light

The Town recently closed out its two-year LED Retrofit Street Light project. The project began in 2018 with the purchase of the Town’s 864 street lights from National Grid for $45,000 and continued with a $270,000 appropriation to convert all of the traditional High Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights to energy-saving LED lights. The cost of purchasing and installing these lights was subsidized by a 30% grant ($50,761) from the State Dept. of Energy Resources and a utility incentive subsidy of $75,915 from National Grid. Based on estimates provided by the State, the Town will recoup its entire investment in less than three years. Thereafter, the Town will save an estimated $50,000 per year in electricity costs.
