Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant

The Department of Public Works, through its contractor, Pennichuck Water Service, will be flushing hydrants October 26th through November 6th, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Hydrant flushing is done to ensure that hydrants are in working order for fire protection, and to remove mineral deposits that may accumulate in the water distribution system. Please refrain from doing laundry during flushing operations and be sure to check the color of the water prior to doing laundry. Discolored water may stain clothing.  Low pressure and cloudy water are normal. There are no health hazards associated with discolored water.

During the week of October 26th through October 30th, Pennichuck will be flushing the hydrants in the following areas:  The Plains toward the highway, Lena Maes Way, Black Snake Road, Folly Mill Road, Locust Street, Elmwood Street, Congress Street, and Main Street.

Questions or concerns can be directed to Pennichuck Water Service at 800-553-5191 or the Department of Public Works at 978-462-7611.
